Going to USASA Nationals

Well we just finished up the Pine Knob Huck Finn competition weekend. It was a great time. Spencer took 1st for both Slopestyle and Boardercross. So now he is unofficially the series winner for his age group in all 5 events (Slopestyle, Boardercross, Giant Slalom, Slalom, and Halfpipe) and will be going to Copper in April to compete at the USASA National Championships. I say unofficially since we do have one more event for the Huck Finn series to be held at Crystal Mountain on the March 7 weekend. But Spencer has the points now to hold his lead no matter the outcome at Crystal. It should be a great time.

Also, the Impossible Rail Jams have all be amazing. The setups have been awesome and Spencer has been hitting them all. Below is a picture of Spencer at last weekend's rail jam. It is amazing to watch the kids at these rail jams since the skill level is so high.

Impossible Rail Jam - Shanty Creek

Spencer competed in the first official USASA Huck Finn competition of the season this past weekend.  He took home 3 gold medals in Slopestyle, Halfpipe, and Boardercross.  It was a great time.

Spencer also competed in the Impossible Rail Jam.  One of the features was a picnic table on top of a tool shed.  There was some snow built up on each side of the shed.  Spencer wanted to hit it, and he did.  Below is a video of him hitting it.

Also, here is another video with some more clips from the rail jam.  Spencer also was able to ride in the snow cat while they built the course.

USASA Coach Certification

Well this weekend I am going for my USASA Coaching 100 Certification. This will allow me to be an officially registered coach within the USASA organization so I can continue coaching my son and any other kids that compete. I am looking forward to this.

Good Start to Winter Season

Hi all. I hope everyone has had a great New Year. It has been a great fall and winter. I was sick for a while in Sept and Oct, but am finally over that now. Now I just want to start snowboarding as much as possible. Halloween was fun. My daughter was Bat Girl and my son was an Ugly Doll :-) My wife and I made the costume for him. LOL.

Over the last couple months I have had to travel to Korea (week before Thanksgiving) and U.K. (London and Edinburgh, first 2 weeks of Dec) for business, but still managed to fit in some snowboard between trips. The trip to London was great. Saw the changing of the guard and did some shopping. You can see some pictures I took: Album 1 and Album 2

It has been a good start to the snowboard season. My son is practicing for the big competitions that will be starting in a week. And my daughter and wife have decided to join us in this great sport. My daughter is 3 and is already starting to snowboard. She is doing awesome and is moving to the chairlift now. Below is some video of her. She is now able to do turns so I will have to take some more video to show off that.

My wife is also coming along great. After a couple times she is able to make it down the hill on her own. This is so cool.

Happy New Year to all and I hope 2009 is full of fun. See you all on the slopes.

Kids in Costume

The kids dressed in their Halloween costumes. Spencer was one of his Ugly Dolls and Sydney was Bat Girl.

First Time on Ice

Today I took my daughter, Sydney, to the local arena for open skate. This was the first time she was on ice skates. She quickly got the hang of it.

The Season Begins - Wahoo!!!

Well today was the first rail jam of the season for Spencer. A local shop, TWC, held their annual rail jam for snowboarding. They set up a wood structure with a couple rails, and trucked in snow from the local arenas.

It was a great day. There were two rails to hit. One was a handrail setup and the other was a box rail. To hit the box rail thy used a winch to get you up to speed. That was very fun to watch. It was also Spencer's first time using a winch. He rocked it.

They divided the rail jam into two age categories, under 15 and 15 and older. Spencer took second place in the under 15 age group, which was great considering he was the youngest kid competing. He is 9 years old.

Well we are looking forward to this years snowboarding season. Spencer has already told me he is going to work on his rotations and go bigger.

I plan on posting video and photos this year.

Boyne's Spring Board Meeting

About a week and a half ago we went to the Boyne Highland's Spring Board Meeting. This is the last time we can ride the terrain park and pipe around here before they close. The weather on Saturday was not very spring like, but the weather on Sunday was amazing. Here are a couple pictures.
